This 7 km circular route takes you on an unforgettable journey through the picturesque landscapes of Cornwall, complete with a couple of ferry crossings that add to the adventure.
The walk begins from the car park and then takes you down into Fowey, offering rewarding views of the estuary as you descend. Whether you’re exploring the narrow lanes lined with quaint shops and cafés or sitting beside the scenic waterfront watching the boats, Fowey’s unique character and picturesque surroundings make every step a pleasure.
The first stop on the Hall Walk is the quaint village of Polruan, reached by a short ferry ride across the estuary from Fowey. The ferry itself is a wonderful experience, offering a unique perspective from the water and Fowey’s charming waterfront.
Once in Polruan, you can take a break at one of the local pubs (The Lugger Inn or The Russell Inn) before continuing your walk along the coast. The route then leads you inland, winding through lush woodlands and offering panoramic views over the Fowey River and beyond. The tranquil surroundings and magnificent views make this part of the walk particularly special.
After you reach the end of Pont Pill, you will climb back up through the woodland for even more amazing views of Fowey and Polruan before heading towards Bodinnick, where you’ll find another pub (The Old Ferry Inn) and the ferry back to Fowey. As you cross the estuary, you will see ‘Ferryside’, the house where Daphne Du Maurier wrote her first novel. This final crossing provides a last chance to soak in the views and appreciate the beauty of the Hall Walk. Back in Fowey, treat yourself to a well-earned drink or a delicious meal at one of the many pubs (such as Haveners) or cafés.

“If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.”
