The Fox and Duck Pub Walk, Therfield

This pub walk is a wonderful epic adventure in the beautiful and peaceful countryside that you'll find in the northern end of Hertfordshire.

It starts in the pretty village of Therfield which has a wonderful village pub, The Fox and Duck, nestled alongside the village green.

The walk then takes you on a long adventure to the north of the village, heading on a long downhill walk towards Royston and you'll enjoy wonderful sweeping views as you walk.

Then at the bottom of the hill you'll wander through the pretty woodlands of Therfield Heath, and then through some farmed fields, before then starting the long and picturesque climb back up the hill towards the village.

The farmed fields section can be a bit of a battle during the peak summer months when the crops are up as they didn't cut a wide enough pathway when we visited. During this time, please wear appropriate clothing for this, or alternatively use the red-dotted diversion which isn't as pretty, but doesn't have the high crops issue.

It's quite exposed to the sun for periods of the walk, so please go prepared with adequate sun protection on hot days. The long hill back up is quite a strenuous walk as well, but that will make your reward at the Fox and Duck all the more enjoyable.

Finally, you can get to this route from the Royston Train station. It's quite a long walk to join the route from there, but it's worth it if you want a big strenuous and rewarding trek with a great pub half way around.
