Aldbury
We love our four routes of varying lengths around the pretty village of Aldbury that you'll find on the western edge of the county. You'll first climb up the steep path up into the Ashridge Estate where you'll then enjoy the Monument before strolling around the delightful woodlands on the estate. After that, you'll then descend back down to the village for your reward at the wonderful country pub in the village.

Brocket Hall
We have two routes that explore the beautiful Brocket Hall estate from the delightful Waggoners pub in Ayot Green. You'll first walk through the pretty village of Ayot Green and then head off on an amble along the Ayot Greenway disused railway path for a while before looping back around through some woodland and into the Brocket Hall park. You'll then walk around the lovely park visiting the photogenic bridge and lake before heading out of the park to the north and back to the pub for your reward.

Burnham Green
One of our favourite country pub walks on the app is the lovely third route from Burnham Green that offers you a wonderfully varied route in this beautiful area of Hertfordshire countryside. The walk heads out to the north from the pub and then takes you on an adventure through Barnes Wood and Harmergreen Wood where you'll possibly find some air outlets from the railway tunnels deep in the woods. After the excitement of the woods, you will then follow the loop back round through a residential area and then through some pretty countryside until you reach the village and wonderful pub garden for your reward.

Comb's Wood
We love this one as it feels a bit like a hidden secret walk that takes you off the beaten track.
The first route from here is a short and mildly hilly stroll that all of the family can enjoy. It starts with a walk downhill through the pretty Comb's Wood itself, and then it climbs up the hill again alongside Banfield wood offering you some fabulous countryside views. You'll then loop around and head back to the start of the walk along the Chain Walk.
If you have a little bit more time though, this second route option is basically an extension of the first walk. You'll enjoy all of the woods and views from the first route, but the extra distance on this one then takes you on a long loop of walking deep into the countryside that you were enjoying the look of from the top of the hill.

Gobions Woods
Gobions woods is a wonderful nature reserve that offers a short but varied walking adventure with woodland, grassland, hedges and a really pretty lake.
We really like it as its an equally enjoyable walk in all seasons. The woodland is twisted and moody in the winter, making for an enjoyable atmospheric adventure. In the spring, the woodland is bursting with life, the lake glistens in the summer, and of course the Autumn brings the wonderful colours to the woods.

Hertford
Hertford is a wonderful historic market town and we simply love the 6.5 mile adventure on the app that takes you on a beautiful walk between the towns of Hertford and Ware.
You start at Hartham common where there is a wonderful play park for the kids and then you'll head off on a long walk that explores both of the pretty market towns with their various eateries.
In-between the two towns you'll enjoy a long sweeping walk along the canal towpath when you go one way and the other way takes you on a fun filled adventure through the Kings Mead nature reserve with it's beautiful lakes and abundance of wildlife.

Pegsdon Hills
This one is just a gnat's whisker over the border into Bedfordshire, but it's well worth the extra few minutes of driving as it offers some of the best views in the area.
There's a steep climb to the top of the first hill, that the kids will no doubt enjoy, and then you're rewarded with some wonderful panoramic views.
After that you can either descend back down if you are following the shorter walk, or you can head off on one of the longer route options that offer an energetic, but wonderful, adventure around the Hills, the Chiltern Way, the Hoo Bit Nature Reserve and the Barton Hills.

Therfield
The north of the country offers some of the most peaceful countryside as you get further away from the more densely populated areas in the south.
One of our favourite walks up in the north is the long 6 mile adventure from Therfield. The walk starts from the community green of the quintessentially English village of Therfield that was a truly wonderful pub, the Fox and Duck.
As soon as you leave the village the walk starts heading on a long downhill walk towards Royston and you'll enjoy wonderful sweeping views as you walk. Then at the bottom of the hill you'll wander through the pretty woodlands of Therfield Heath, before then starting the long and picturesque climb back up the hill towards the village.
Of course the long hill is quite a strenuous walk, but that will make your reward at the Fox and Duck all the more enjoyable.

Stapleford
We have a number of routes from the village of Stapleford, ranging from a short there and back walk, to a much longer adventure that takes you off the beaten track and visits a pub in the village of Chapmore End.
The main reason this walk made the top 10 however, is for the spectacular display of both the purple bluebells and the white wild garlic that you get here in the spring. All three of the walks enjoy this, so we would recommend all of the routes depending on your requirements.

Waterford Heath
We love Waterford Heath as it is a short walk, that offers a fantastic and wonderfully varied adventure that all of the family can enjoy.
The walk takes you through the pretty landscapes of the reserve itself before looping around through the woodlands of the Great Mole Woods and then back up along a lovely section of riverside walking in the Waterford Marshes.
You will then nip through a short residential area before entering twisted woodlands again and then emerging out into the open heathland where you'll find the 'Dinosaur Egg' sculpture on the way back to the start point. A great adventure for little legs who like their T-Rex's!
