Oxfordshire walks - Chimney Meadows

If you are looking for a walk that will give you a good leg stretch, provide peace and solitude and where you can immerse yourself in nature this is the walk for you. The walk passes through the Chimney Meadows Nature Reserve, past the hamlet of Duxford with its pretty thatched cottages and then along a beautiful stretch of the River Thames.

To get the app and this walk visit https://www.localwalks.co.uk/oxfordshire-walks or search for 'Oxfordshire Walks' on your app store.

The start of this six mile walk is at the Chimney Meadows Car Park which is quite small and there is nowhere else to park so the walk is best done early in the morning or early evening (which is also the best time to experience the wildlife).

There are a couple of loops as part of the route which may be closed, in which case just stay on the main route which is still very enjoyable. During our walk we experienced red kites soaring above, geese flying over, cuckoos calling from the copses, swifts and swallows skimming the river, deer hiding in the long grass and a swan with her signets. We also had a wonderful chorus of birdsong following us most of the way.

Please note that whilst this walk is suitable for dogs, they must be kept on a short lead whilst in the nature reserve to avoid disturbing the wildlife. Also please ensure that you do not leave any litter behind as it can harm the wildlife.

You can see a full list of Oxfordshire walks here.

Taking regular exercise outdoors amongst nature is good for both our mental and physical health at this time, but whilst out walking please remember to keep your distance from other walkers.

A few user comments about a Chimney Meadows walk

Beautiful route along the river Thames, a bird hide was a bonus for admiring the view.

Really lovely walk and the route was spot on. Some livestock in neighbouring fields, but we didn’t come across any in the fields we had to walk along. Plenty of riverside walking.
