Shotover Country Park near Oxford is a lovely place to explore if you like walking and being surrounded by nature. With it's woodland valleys, hilltop grassland, scenic landscapes and abundance of varied wildlife, you will really enjoy this walk! This route is best enjoyed anti-clockwise and if you have time, why not stop for a picnic.

This week’s walk is a there and back route of 8 miles. It is a very easy walk and can be enjoyed by the whole family. There is plenty of variety as you stroll past red-roofed houses and riverside boats between waterside and meadow. Enjoy crossing from bank to bank, over bridges, weirs, locks and islands.
Starting from Abingdon, one of England’s oldest market towns you will firstly visit Abbey Meadows with its ecclesiastical medieval ruins, and romantic Victorian Abbey Gardens. Little remains of the town’s medieval abbey itself, but its impressive Long Gallery survives.

This week's 7 1/2 mile circular walk starts at the pretty ancient market town of Bampton which sits not far from the beautiful River Thames. The town is famous for being used for filming scenes in the popular TV drama ‘Downton Abbey’. See the old Grammar School Building which houses the Bampton Community Archive, with its impressive collection of old photographs of Bampton and its people which served as the 'Downton' hospital. Visit the 12th-century parish church of St. Mary the Virgin which is believed to be the church where Lady Edith took Matthew sightseeing during season one of ‘Downton Abbey’ .

It is a wonderful walk to do if you want to enjoy meandering around two lovely Cotswold villages: Bledington and Kingham. This area is foodie heaven where you are spoilt for choice for wonderful places to eat after a delightfully easy walk. (You will probably have to book though as they are all very busy!)
This 4 1/2 mile walk starts from Bledington, an attractive village situated in the Evenlode Valley and crossing part of the Oxfordshire Way. This scenic village has a lovely green and still retains its 15th century church and Victorian maypole. There is also a popular village pub ‘The King’s Head Inn’, voted Pub of the Year in the ‘Good Pub Guide 2018’.
The walk travels through fields and meadows in parts touching the Evenlode River and joining the Diamond Way for a short distance. On route you will travel through the delightfully peaceful village of Kingham which was once chosen 'England's Favourite Village’ by Country Life.

This week’s 7 1/2 mile walk starts from the lovely old market town of Chipping Norton, aka ‘Chippy’ to locals. This is a typical quintessential Cotswold town in the north of the region whose name means (would you believe) ’market north town’. The market is held on Wednesdays.
From here you will walk to the village of Salford and across open countryside and farm fields to visit the famous Rollright Stones.

This 5 1/2 mile circular walk which ultimately will take you up to the internationally renowned Bronze-Age Uffington White Horse will give you big skies to take in for the whole walk. The walk starts at the National Trust Car Park at Uffington White Horse Hill then travels anti-clockwise, southwards along an established track to Knighton Bushes and back to White Horse Hill via the gallops on Woolstone Down. If you follow the path up to the white horse itself (see map in photos), you will see the oldest chalk-cut hill figure in Britain. Despite being very modernist in its design, experts suggest it is over 3,000 years old.

Starting in the centre of the old town of Eynsham, this 5 mile circular walk takes you firstly along the B4044 (please see note at end). Shortly after crossing over the elegant Georgian Swinford Toll Bridge take the footpath to the left which takes you under the bridge and onto the Thames Path. The footpath beside the river meanders serenely through beautiful water meadows where, apart from the odd fellow walker or occasional barge, you will find this spot very tranquil indeed. In the early summer, some of the fields are full of meadow flowers and put on a wonderful display.

This short 3 mile walk starts at the Badbury Hill National Trust Car Park. From here the walk takes you along a path through the woodland. These mixed woodlands of larch, beech, sycamore, oak, pine, cherry and silver birch offer a haven for a wide variety of wild plants and animals to look out for. The woods also, conceal some interesting archaeological and historical features dating from the Iron Age through to the Second World War.
The kids will love exploring and building dens and you can search out the many paths through the woods with confidence. By following the pointer on the app, you will always find your way back onto the route on the map to continue your walk.
