Ashdown Forest walks
Ashdown Forest is a wonderful place to walk, explore nature and enjoy amazing views of the Sussex countryside. The forest is located within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and covers 6500 acres. We have four walks around Ashdown Forest and Gills Lap on the Sussex Walks app ranging from 1 mile to 3.25 miles.
Gills Lap - 1 mile
This is a great little short walk for younger children to enjoy. The walk takes you to some of the sites where Winnie the Pooh had his adventures: 'The Enchanted Place' and 'Sandy Pit'.
Ashdown Forest - 1.5 miles
This is a short family-friendly walk around the beautiful heathland and woodland of Ashdown Forest. There is a steep climb on the walk, so you'll need to come prepared with some energy, but the views are worth the effort!
Gills Lap - 2 miles
This is a slightly longer walk within Winnie the Pooh's adventure lands. This route still visits the sand pit and enchanted place, but then ventures out into Wrens Warren Valley which is known as Eeyore's sad and gloomy place.
Ashdown Forest - 3.25 miles
This last route is basically an extension of the second route. You'll enjoy the exercise and beauty from the second route, but this longer walk heads further south into Ashdown Forest and takes you on an adventure along a path alongside a winding stream running through a woodland valley. As before, there is a fair bit of climbing and descending on this route and as with all walks, this can be muddy, so please make sure you have appropriate footwear.
